Dr. Edwards is a Professor of Kinesiology –Occupational Therapy, Neurology and Medicine.  She is the Chair of the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Wisconsin Madison. .  She is the Minority Outreach Core Leader of the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (WADRC) and Co-Core Leader of the WADRC Education Core with Dr. Sager. She is a member of the WAI Milwaukee Outreach and   Service program team. Her role is to support outreach and education to the African American community and to increase African American participation in WRAP and WADRC studies.

Dr. Edwards has been engaged in Alzheimer’s disease research since 1980. Her research has focused on the contribution of cognition to independence in complex life activities in persons with Alzheimer’s disease and stroke.  Dr. Edwards has also been involved in the development of home based diagnosis and care management programs for black elders and their families. She is particularly interested in helping elders safely remain in their homes for as long as possible through the provision of home-based services, and caregiver support.
