
The Milwaukee Alzheimer's Prevention Program (MAPP) is committed to helping minority elders in Milwaukee to live at home independently and as safely as possible, and assists those with memory issues to find services to meet their needs. This is a free program, does not have any income requirements and can be accessed without a referral from a healthcare provider.
MAPP is a Client-Centered Care model serving the whole person. While the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Institute (WAI) is committed to creating research programs to prevent Alzheimer's disease and increasing minority participation in these research programs, we are very sensitive to the needs of the community. It is therefore essential that we recognize and acknowledge that many minority elders in Milwaukee suffer from a variety of illnesses that if diagnosed and treated properly, might significantly reduce the chance of developing Alzheimer's disease. The MAPP program was developed in support of this belief.
MAPP has a full-time care coordinator that is able to work with elders in both the community and home setting. Depending on the need, the coordinator can:
